Wednesday, July 21
Dinner at 5:45 pm; worship at 6:30 pm
Following dinner on July 21,
Intervarsity Christian Fellowship staff member Tom Trevethan leads us in worship. Tom’s ministry, since 1979 in Ann Arbor, has focused on evangelism, formation of disciples, ministry leadership, and expository preaching. His current work focuses on university faculty with InterVarsity Faculty Ministry, where he serves as the Research and Publications Coordinator. Tom is the author of two books, numerous articles, and several hymns.
Come as you are; invite your neighbors, friends, family members and casual acquaintances. Childcare for infants to 4-year-olds is provided. Plan also for one more summer midweek dinner and worship service on August 25. We encourage you to bring others for these times of worship, conversation and grace-filled refreshment.
Home communion is a way to extend the celebration of the Lord’s Supper beyond the gathered congregation and was offered in the early church. Elders, deacons or pastors will come as a team of two to your location on the first Sunday or Monday of the month. The visit will consist of the offering of the bread and cup with prayer and a reading of Scripture.
We need your help for this ministry! We currently have a team of elders and deacons, along with the pastors, ready to serve in this way, but have no real way of knowing who would like to receive this service. This offering is especially for our members who are home bound, residents of nursing or rehabilitation facilities, or those convalescing at home. If you know someone in our congregation who you think would like home communion or if you would like to receive home communion yourself, please contact the church office. A member of the Board of Deacons will contact people requesting home communion to schedule a convenient time. Communion brings us closer to the Lord as it is to be a proclamation of what Jesus did for us. We pay tribute and honor to Jesus when we remember Him by administering communion to one another: our family, our friends, our brothers and sisters in the Lord.
An October 17–23 mission trip is planned in coordination with Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, to help with recovery following recent severe flooding in the Nashville area.
More information and signup opportunity are forthcoming. The team, led by Jack Collins, will comprise up to fifteen volunteers, and will lodge at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Nashville.
Thank you to all who helped make our Vacation Bible School a wonderful time for over 50 children, plus adults and youth volunteers. Thanks to set-up and take-down crews, caravan leaders and marketplace shopkeepers. Great job, everyone! Thanks to costume preparer, Berta Kennel; at-home prep team, Barb and Randy Greschaw; and our tummies thank all the food donors!
A special thanks goes to members of the Children’s Committee: Eric Boyd, registration; Emily Bramblett, program coordination, drama scripting and direction and music leader; Carole Franklin for coordination of caravan groups and storytelling; Robyn Kaiser and Paula Michalak for their creative sets that gave us such a wonderful atmosphere.
Kudos to Marla Johnston for her ever-flowing talents for crafts which gave kids great things to do in the marketplace; to Laurie Kurihara for food planning and preparation; to Maggi Kennel who assisted with food service; and to Betsy Parks-Brantmeyer for coordinating volunteers. Wonderful work was done by our drama crew: Ted Sleder, Eric Klooster, Bryce Babcock, Cathy Daniels, Doug Franklin, Robyn Kaiser, Jim Smallish, Hannah Burkhart, Skyler Dempsey and Caleb Burkhart. Marti Burbeck provided publicity, registration materials, banners and postcards. Bravo! What would we do without all of you? Thanks so much!
